- Are there people who haven't travelled in the Mumbai Local and still go around telling everyone that they are from Mumbai ? I hope not. The local train has been around even before Bombay became the city of dreams. Or should I say had there been no local trains then Bombay would never become what it is today. It is a place where people come from all the parts of the country to make it big. Making it big could mean becoming a film star for some, for others it could mean pushing themselves out of the poverty line. And the local train will help you in your pursuit. It will help you when you are low on cash and on days when you are short of time. If you want to evade traffic or looking for a joyride to uptown just take the local. It is the cheapest and the fastest mode of transport in Mumbai. I took the local train almost everyday for years. When I first started travelling Platform 1 and 2 of Borivali were still 7 and 8. Back then I thought I would rather be in a car than this train. But now when I am stuck in traffic I am reminded how the Mumbai local never failed me. I look at the local train experience with a lot of nostalgia and reminisce about those afternoons travelling to Kandivali from Bandra. Like many before me have tried to capture the feeling of travelling in the Mumbai Local I am trying to do the same with this video. A badly worded love letter to this city in disguise of review.
